Last year we did 'draw your inner editor', we do it in crayon then I seal them up in envelopes and I keep them hostage (literally, I tie the bundle up with twine and put a tiny strip of cloth around it like a blindfold and keep it in site of everyone at all the events). Most people asked for them back at the end of NaNo to - seriously - burn them. It was a hoot.
